Touring the Coast

This January my dad and I went on a tour to Vancouver Island. It's pretty beautiful country out that way—the mountains, the mist, the rocky shores, and the roaring ocean... It would not even be possible to describe all that we saw, but here is just a little of the beauty I was able to capture. Enjoy!

High Mountain RoadThis is one of the roads that we took through the many mountains on our way to the coast. The way the snow clung to the trees was like a picture from a Christmas postcard. Combine that with the mountains and the rivers and the fog, and we are just swept away

Rought Coastline In the winter the island rarely gets days sun, but we were so blessed to have not just one but three gorgeous sunny days. The sunshine has such a way of transforming an already pretty spot into a little Paradise on Earth.

Long BeachLong beach was a very neat location. When the tide is out there is this HUGE expanse of perfectly flat, smooth sand, still wet from the ocean.

The Hiking Trail On one of our free days, dad and I hiked from China Beach on the south-west coast of the island, to another beach farther down the shoreline (Mystic Beach, which you'll see later on...). The hike was a couple of kilometers long, very wet, and treacherous. The path consisted of mainly puddles and the knobby roots of the surrounding trees. There were several little streams we had to cross, and once there was a big suspension bridge high above a churning creek. The trail was faint at some points, and a couple times we almost lost it. Actually, we did get lost one time... But the forest the trail snaked through was absolutely picturesque, and we loved every minute of it!

Tofino Beach Tofino is the perfect tourist destination; the town is so quaint, the restraunts all serve amazing food, and it all sits against   coastline like this.

Sea-Worn Cliffs Towering stone walls, worn away by countless years of the ocean's rough treatment...

Rocky Waters The Wild Pacific trail winds alongside the western shoreline of the island. There are many spots where ships were often wrecked in the past. The sailers who tried to swim to land always drowned in the turbulent waters, even though they were so close to shore. Happy thoughts.

Cliffs on the Beach Part of our goal in coming to Vancouver Island was to get in a a photoshoot for dad's next album. Mystic beach had these amazing, worn-away cliffs just perfect for a photoshoot.

Mystic Beach at Sunset  We stayed at mystic beach til sunset, and the lighting was just magical!

The Lighthouse The lighthouse on the Wild Pacific Trail.

Dawn Over Victoria One evening we parked at a rest stop overlooking Victoria. I woke up at 7 the next moring, just in time to see the sun rise...

Seagulls We went back to Long Beach on a wet, rainy day when it was completely deserted except for us (smart tourists that we are) and a flock of seabirds.

Mystic Beach Yes, it was a long walk, but wow, what a destination! The whole beach was just absolutely picturesque (I mean, just look at that waterfall!)

Earth's Veins Yup, that was one amazing hike.

Whoa, you actually scrolled all the way to the bottom! Thanks for taking a minute to look through all these pictures. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I have! Let me know which pics were your favourites!
