Breakfast Sublime

For my photography course I had to take a picture that I really admired/liked and try to replicate it as perfectly as I could. I remembered seeing a picture of pancakes that got a DD a while back and decided I'd try copying that, 'cause it looked just so darn delicious:



For my actual assignment I edited the colors to match exactly, but I think I like my original red tones better.

This project turned out to be far more challenging than I ever would have thought! So many details to pay attention to—the gradient in the background, the wood, the right amount of fluffiness for my pancakes, the annoying little stains from the blueberries... Took me a good few hours to get my set right. I built and stained the wooden slats for it all to sit on, taped fabric to the wall, arranged white boards around the table to reflect light, and set up seven different lights—ranging from big spot lights to little desk lamps. And, fortunately, we just so happened to have a bag of frozen strawberries and blueberries in the freezer.

In the end, it may not be 100% perfect, but I definitely learned a LOT about lighting and how to pay attention to little details so I can get what I want.
